Questions? Read below...

What age infant is the Ergobaby designed for?

The carrier used alone is recommended for a child 4 or 6 months up to about 40lbs. Once your baby can hold her/his head up for long periods of time and is comfortable with her/his hips in a splayed position, then your baby can sit in the Ergo comfortably without an infant insert.

What is the Infant Insert and do I need it?

The infant insert is designed for use with babies newborn to about age 4-6 months. It supports your baby's head and neck, as well as spine and hips during those first crucial months of development. The Heart2Heart Infant insert comes with a removable pillow to adjust the height at which your child sits in the carrier.

What is the weight limit of the Ergobaby carrier?

Ergobaby recommends a weight limit of 45 pounds for its carrier, however, it has been strength tested up to 90 pounds. This carrier will accommodate you as long as you and your baby are happy using it.

Can I face my baby out when I wear her/him on the front?

There is now that option with the Ergobaby Four Position 360. It is specially designed to support baby's legs ergonomically while in the face-out position. Research has shown that babies can become overstimulated when in the outward position, so be sure to change positions when baby needs it.

What age is best to move my baby to the back carry position?

This is an individual milestone for babies. Usually around 6 months a child will be happy moving to the back position, though this may vary from 4-9 months. If a child is fussing in the back position for the first time, bringing them to a mirror where they can see themselves and you will often settle them. Also, bouncing and movement may help.

What is the difference between the ERGObaby Sport Carrier and the Performance Carriers?

  • FABRIC: The ERGObaby Sport Carrier is made from a blend of 35% cotton/65% polyester, while the Performance Carrier features an exterior of 98% polyester/2% lycra (Grey) or 70% nylon/30% cotton (Green). Performance carriers also have a cooling panel for extra wicking, and a mesh lining.
  • WEIGHT: Due to the difference in fabrics, the ERGObaby Performance Carrier is about 1/3 lighter weight than the ERGObaby Sport, Original, or Organic carriers.
  • WAIST BELT: Both carriers have waist belts that can extend an extra 5” past the length of our Original or Organic ERGObaby Carriers, accommodating from 25” to 48”. The waist extension accessory is compatible with the ERGObaby Sport Carrier, but not with the Performance carriers.
  • SHOULDER STRAPS: The ERGObaby Sport Carrier’s shoulder straps are straight, as the Original and Organic Carriers, and can extend to 27”. The Performance Carrier’s shoulder straps are contoured; feature thinner, non-water-absorbent foam; and extend to 23”, like the Original and Organic ERGObaby Carrier’s straps.
  • SLEEPING HOOD: The ERGObaby Sport Carrier’s sleeping hood is detachable. The Performance Carrier’s sleeping hood is attached, and stores in the zippered pocket.
  • CHEST STRAP: The ERGObaby Performance Carrier’s chest strap is on a slider, for easy adjusting.

Do I need to have help to get my child into the carrier?

You can get your baby in the carrier by yourself without the help of anyone or anything. However, we recommend you practice several times with the help of someone until you feel comfortable with the process. Older babies also become familiar and will help by lifting their leg and hanging on to your back. In the back carry position it also helps to practice in front of a mirror so both you and your baby can make visual connection with what you are doing. Please click here to view detailed instructions from ERGObaby. If you are still having difficulty, please contact us for further assistance.

Can I nurse in the Ergobaby Carrier?

Yes, nursing is very easy with the Ergobaby carrier. Just loosen the shoulder straps so that your baby is sitting at the appropriate position for nursing. You will need to adjust this position as your baby grows.

What are the washing instructions for the carrier?

Close all buckles outside of safety elastic strap before washing. Machine wash cold with mild detergent on gentle cycle. Dry on delicate cycle and remove when seams are still damp. Air dry, avoiding direct sunlight. Do not machine wash frequently. Do not use detergents with bleach, perfumes, dyes, chlorine, or optical brighteners. Spot clean as needed.

Ergobaby uses only the highest quality and safest dyes possible to ensure a product that will retain its color, but is free from harmful chemicals. There is always a possibility that colors will fade depending on the quality of water and detergent type used. Different colors may require different types of detergents for best results. Please research your local water quality and detergent ingredients for best results according to color, as well as spot test before washing. ERGObaby cannot be held responsible for faded colors due to laundering.
